Sridevi, born on August 13, 1963, was an Indian actress and film producer who acted in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam films. She made her acting debut as a child artist with the 1967 Tamil film 'Kandhan Karunai' at the age of four. She began her career by playing lead roles as a child actor with MA Thirumugam's 1969 mythological Tamil movie 'Thunaivan'. Her first adult role came at the age of 13 in 1976 with the Tamil film 'Moondru Mudichu'. Widely regarded as the "First Female Superstar" of India, she has won numerous accolades throughout her career, including a National Film Award, a Nandi Award, one Tamil Nadu State Film Award, a Kerala State Film Award, four Filmfare Awards, three Filmfare Awards South, and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, among others. Some of the films which helped establish her as a leading actress in Bollywood include 'Justice Chaudhury', 'Waqt Ki Awaz', 'Watan Ke Rakhwale', 'Tohfa', 'Chandni', 'Mr. India', and 'Naya Kadam'. In 2013, she was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. On February 24, 2018, the actress died of accidental drowning in her Dubai hotel room's bathtub. She was married to producer Boney Kapoor with whom she had two children: actress Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.
